About Charlotte Therapy Center
Charlotte Therapy Center was founded in 2016 by Ed Nissen, LCSW, as a single-provider practice built around one idea: therapy should create lasting change, not just short-term relief. Ed's own approach is depth-oriented, drawing on existential and personality psychology, and he's since authored a book exploring identity and growth in long-term relationships.
What started as one clinician has grown into a team of experienced, licensed therapists, each bringing a different background and specialty, while sharing the same relational, insight-driven approach to the work.

How We Work
Our approach is relational, insight-oriented, and practical. We look at the patterns underneath the surface, in relationships, in behavior, in the stories people tell themselves, because lasting change tends to start there, not with a checklist of symptoms to manage.
At the same time, therapy here isn't just talk. When it's useful, sessions include real tools you can put to use in your daily life right away. There's no single model we run everyone through. Every client's therapy is shaped around them.
Who We Work Best With
We work best with people who are open to self-reflection and genuinely want to understand and shift the patterns that keep showing up in their lives, whether that's in relationships, work, or how they move through stress and change.
Common reasons clients come to us include relationship challenges, anxiety and stress, depression or a sense of being stuck, life transitions, and recurring emotional patterns. We work with clients age 10 and up.
Where we're not the right fit
We're upfront about where we're not the right fit: we don't provide crisis or emergency care, treat active psychosis, work with clients in active addiction who aren't yet in recovery, or handle court-ordered, custody, or disability evaluations.
If you're in crisis, please call 911, go to your nearest ER, or call or text 988.
Why Clients Choose Us
Every new client starts with a free 15-minute consultation, not a sales call, but a real conversation with a therapist to talk through what's going on and see if it feels like the right match.
Fit-First Approach
That fit-first approach, combined with a focus on real, lasting patterns rather than quick symptom management, is what sets our work apart.
Evidence-Based Methods
Our therapists draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, and mindfulness-based methods.
Insurance & Payment
We accept most Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna plans, including Aetna EAP. For clients without in-network coverage, self-pay sessions are $150.
•We're not able to accept Medicaid, Medicare, or Tricare at this time.
Ready to Talk?
